Compassion is an essential element of Christ-likeness.

If you expect or experience the benefit of God’s compassion to yourself, be compassionate to one another.

Christ took to heart the wants, hurts, and fears of humanity. It is this very example set by Christ that we are asked to imitate.

Notice the two natures of Christ; His Divine and Human nature, He gave up his Divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

We humble ourselves so that God can work through us. As we place ourselves on the level of others, just as Jesus did, people will rise to meet us when they see the inner workings of God in us.

Christ had ushered our feet to communities to manifest His power (Matt. 9:35). As Christ establishes the Kingdom, LIVO is His strategy for transforming the world one community at a time. We are hereby called to be Christ to the community we live in. We are called to listen and respond to the wants, hurts and fears of our communities and reach out to the people at their point of need.

Our supreme motives are to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the needy and the lost in communities and towns.

We are made to responds to the need expressed by those we seek to help. When we look in Scripture at Jesus’ example, we find that Jesus was moved with compassion to respond according to the need presented to Him (Matt. 20:30-34). Jesus did not determine the solution without first assessing the need; He asked of those in need, “What is it that you desire?” These approaches of Jesus help us in the persons and communities we seek to serve. When we respond to others from their expressed point of need, we show that we care about the things they care about. We share in their experiences and minister with rather than to them. Christ dwelt among the people and we are called to do the same as Ambassadors of Christ.

Jesus taught in the parable of the good Samaritans that loving our neighbours involves willingly giving that which we have to help those who are in need. Having meditated on several revealed chapters and verses in the Holy Scriptures, we became motivated to commit ourselves to reaching our neighbors with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If we fail to carry out Christ’s greatest commandments, then we are only a noisy gong or clanging cymbal.

The compelling love of Christ and obedience to His greatest commandments becomes our supreme motive for the involvement in LIVO.

In Luke 4:18-19, we understood this quotes from Prophet Isaiah:

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

The liberating Spirit given to Jesus is the same Holy Spirit given to the Church on the day of Pentecost. To engage only in relief efforts is to give only half the story and as a result, we engage in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and relief substance for sustainable living of the needy and even the lost or unsaved.

We focus on transforming the lives of people in the world and establishing the kingdom of God here on earth.

Knowing what we look out for in our community and how

  1. What did Jesus see when He looked out at the crowds who came to see Him (Matt.9:35-27)?
  2. What do we see when we look around our own communities? How can we see people as Jesus sees them?
  3. Why did Jesus ask the two blind men what they wanted from Him (Matt. 20:30-34)?
  4. Why does it matter what people want if we are trying to help them as best we can? Shouldn’t this act of help look foolish?
  5. Do you think it is as much for our benefit that we listen to the needs of those we want to minister to as it is for their benefit? Why?

What is required if we are to reach our communities at their point of need?

We must ask, Are we willing to set aside our own desires in order to be an Ambassador of Christ?

We must ask, What does our community really need and how can we provide it?

What will happen to the lost if we do nothing? (Luke 10:25-37)

We understood that the good neighbor looks beyond the external accidents. Can we afford to go beyond the external for the sake of Christ’s love?
